Katie Prescott’s career all started thanks to ‘dragon’ Peter Jones. As a new graduate, Katie started working at a London start-up magazine which included an interview with the investor, as well as a job offer from him. She worked as his executive assistant for him for three years, working alongside some of his prior investments including Levi Roots’ Reggae Reggae sauce, and her interest in business news was ignited. After studying for a Masters in journalism, she joined the BBC as a junior researcher.
Soon working her way up the ranks, she became the Today programme’s business presenter, as well as a BBC business correspondent. Whilst at the BBC she covered topics including changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the European debt crisis, new technology, sustainability and climate change, the furlough scheme, inflation figures, the budget and Government statements, unemployment figures, and energy prices.
Katie became the Technology Business Editor for The Times in May 2022, a role that also involved a weekly column for the paper’s business section. Across the ever-changing landscape of media, technology and telecoms, Katie brings the key stories to her readers, listeners and viewers.
Through her contributions, she has written articles on social media, train strikes, haulage and customs, climate change and carbon emissions, holidays, homelessness, mortgages and lockdown, amongst many others.
Katie is a highly accomplished speaker and moderator with experience working with a range of major clients. She is well placed to facilitate conferences, host private, public, charity or corporate events, and present on a number of occasions requiring her expertise in technology, business, finance, economics, media, digital disruption, cyber security and sustainability.
She has contributed to Shout Communications’ ‘business small talks’, spoken at Live-Retail Week, as well as speaking alongside MP Rishi Sunak at London Tech Week.
