More About Andrew Wilson
After leaving University in the early 1980s, Andrew Wilson briefly became an officer in the British Army before turning to broadcasting. He joined TV-am as their Midlands, and then the Scotland, correspondent. In 1989 he became their foreign correspondent, reporting live from the fall of the Berlin Wall and from Kuwait City in 1991 where he reported on the retreating armies of Saddam Hussein.

Andrew joined Sky News in 1993, reporting in countries as far and wide as Bosnia, Hong Kong, South Africa, Australia and across the Middle East, Europe and Africa. In 1998 he became Sky’s Moscow correspondent, covering the war on Chechnya, reported from the 1999 advance from Macedonia into Kosovo alongside KFOR troops and reported on Boris Yeltsin’s Millennium night resignation.
In 2001, Andrew became Sky’s Middle East correspondent and was based in Jerusalem, before becoming their US correspondent in 2004 where he covered the US Presidential Election between George W. Bush and John Kerry. He would return to cover the US Presidential Elections of 2008 and 2012. In 2005 he fronted Sky’s coverage of the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami from Thailand and also from Mississippi on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
He also presented a two-part Sky documentary this year entitled Last Days of the Nazis (2005) which assessed the last moments of Adolf Hitler. In 2007, Andrew became a news presenter based at the London Sky News Centre where he presented Sky News at 5 (1999-2016) on the weekends. Whilst there he continued to travel overseas to report on international news stories such as Sky’s Afghan coverage from Helmand Province, the uprising of Burma, the Russian invasion of George and the Libyan conflict with Ajdabiya. Andrew and Sky News, have been the recipients of a number of industry awards including the RTS Best News Programme in 2016, a Monaco Golden Nymph Award and recognition at the NY TV Festival.
He left Sky News in 2016. Not content with simply reporting on political and military stories, Andrew also has a special interest in environmental stories. He covered the first Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, his fascination and love for stories on the environment has grown and grown.
He presented a number of live shows from the Amazon jungle ahead of the 2009 COP15, and has moderated environmental conferences in the City as well as hosting a number of Virgin Formula E events in Paris and New York. He works with the John Schofield Trust to mentor young journalists and is a contributor to the Westminster Foreign Affairs think tank Global Strategy Forum and is a member of BAFTA.
