Dallas Campbell

Dallas Campbell started his TV presenting career on The Gadget Show (2008) on Channel 5, where his exploits including testing survival gadgets and breaking the Scalextric land speed record, and BBC1’s Bang Goes the Theory (2009-2012), a show he co-presented with Liz Bonnin.

 

Through his career Dallas Campbell has filmed in some of the most dangerous and extraordinary locations including Dubai, where he abseiled off the world’s tallest building, Mexico City, where he went sewer diving, and alongside space experts at Tim Peake’s rocket launch to the International Space Station.

Dallas Campbell has since hosted some of the most extraordinary geographical documentaries for the BBC, including Britain Beneath Your Feet (2015), City in the Sky (2016), The Drake Equation: The Search for Life (2010), The Sky at Night (2019), The Treasure Hunters (2014), Tutankhamen: The Truth Uncovered (2014), Supersized Earth (2014) and Voyager: Beyond the Final Frontier (2012).
He is also a frequent presenter on BBC 4’s series Horizon, Time Scanners (2014) and Positive Energy (2017) on National Geographic and Airport Live (2013) for the BBC alongside Kate Humble and Anita Rani. Dallas also presented Television’s First Night (2016), a recreation of the first television broadcast for the 80th anniversary of BBC’s Stargazing Live. The show featured astronaut Tim Peake and footage of his launch to the International Space Station. The show was so successful it earned Dallas a BAFTA nomination. Dallas was a guest speaker on the BBC 4 radio show Infinite Monkey Cage (2020) alongside Robin Ince.

Dallas released his debut book, Ad Astra: An Illustrated Guide to Leaving the Planet, in 2017. It is an eccentric and completely impractical guide to getting off Earth, complete with real and imagined space travel stories. He is also a regular contributor to Focus magazine, Eureka magazine and The Observer.

Dallas Campbell is a very popular and successful host of live events, particularly science related. He has hosted several roadshows with the Bang Goes the Theory team, hosted events for the BBC such as Dr Who’s 50th Celebration and Stargazing Live, spoken at the Broadcast Digital Awards, Cheltenham Sci Fest, Bluedot festival, with the Young Imagineers and at Tim Peake’s return to Earth, as well as at scientific events including the monthly Science Museum Lates, and at Shell’s Make the Future London Festival.
He is also a guest curator for the Royal Institution and an Honorary Fellow of the British Science Association where he regularly judges their annual Young Scientist & Engineer of the Year awards.
In 2014 he gave the Stoneley Lecture for the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain.
In 2017, Dallas Campbell won the Space Achievement Media Award at the Sir Arthur Clarke Centenary Awards, he holds an Honorary Masters degree from Northampton University and has honorary life membership for his work at the Royal Institution.
