Gerald Ashley

Gerald Ashley is a broadcaster, advisor, and writer on business risk, behavioural economics, and decision making, with over 35 years of experience in international finance and business, having worked in London and Hong Kong for Baring Brothers and Co, and in Switzerland at the Bank of International Settlements. He is currently the Managing Director of St Mawgan & Co, a strategy and risk consultancy business he co-founded in 2003, and a Non-Executive Director at Fund Managers Equitile.

He has addressed audiences in over 25 countries, from senior business leaders and government ministers to start-up entrepreneurs. His main interests are in the human aspects of risk, uncertainty, and innovation, and how we make decisions. Of particular interest will be his research into the effects of demographic shifts on politics, economics and the whole investment landscape. He looks at how shrinking fertility and an aging population is setting up the perfect risk storm over the next 10 years and further out. As well the inherent risks this new era, it will also bring forth new opportunities, where are the regions, economies and the industries to focus on.

He is a frequent commentator in the media and in the press and is an experienced chairman of conferences, seminars, and panel events. He has written three bestselling books on decision making, financial speculation, and the business world. He is a Visiting Fellow at Newcastle Business School and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
