Born in Cardiff, Wales, Gethin Jones was raised in a bilingual Welsh-speaking household. He went on to study Economics and Geography at Manchester Metropolitan University, graduating with a BSc (Hons).
Gethin Jones | Early Broadcasting Career
Gethin began his broadcasting career in Wales, working across both radio and television. After graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University with a degree in Economics and Geography, he joined S4C—Wales’s Welsh-language channel—where he presented youth music and magazine programmes such as Popty and Uned 5.
Fluent in Welsh, Gethin quickly built a reputation for his natural presenting style and energetic on-screen presence. He also worked with BBC Radio Wales, further developing his skills in live broadcasting and setting the foundation for his future national TV career.
Gethin Jones | National Breakthrough with Blue Peter
In 2005, Gethin became the 31st presenter of the iconic BBC children’s programme Blue Peter. There he broke four world records, completed three life-threatening tasks and fulfilled a lifetime ambition of flying with the Red Arrows, as well as training with the Royal Marines.
His tenure included assignments that took him around the world and saw him engage with educational, environmental, and humanitarian themes. His work on Blue Peter earned him a BAFTA Cymru nomination and solidified his reputation for enthusiasm, courage, and reliability.
Gethin Jones | Later TV Career
After leaving Blue Peter in 2008, Gethin transitioned into mainstream broadcasting, appearing on shows such as The One Show, Doctor Who: A Celebration, and The National Lottery Draws. He also competed in the 2007 series of Strictly Come Dancing, reaching the semi-finals with partner Camilla Dallerup. His popularity with audiences led to co-presenting Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two and a variety of other entertainment and lifestyle programmes.
Since 2020, Gethin has been a co-host of BBC One’s Morning Live, a weekday magazine programme covering health, wellbeing, and current affairs. His role on the show showcases his approachable and informative style, and he remains a regular presence on daytime television.
Gethin has presented other high profile shows from 71 Degrees North, to four series of BBC1’s Remembrance which was filmed in the heart of the Green Zone in Afghanistan.

Gethin has an events company, is a partner of Leaf Hospitality and he has also launched a fitness app called Unifi.
Gethin and his friend Sion both have autistic nephews. Inspired by them, they have set up their own Autism charity called Nai which is the welsh word for nephew. They find seminars for parents and provide essential equipment to aid autistic children. Their ambition is to build a much-needed school for Autistic Children in Wales.
