As 80% of the UK’s catch is exported and vitally the same percentage of its consumption is imported, Mike continually strives to promote and spotlight, sustainably caught and seasonal British fish and shellfish, enthusing, educating and arming consumers with the right information in order to make better-informed decisions when purchasing seafood.
Mike Warner’s dedication to the promotion and championing of British seafood has led him to become recognised as one of the leading authorities on its production in the UK. He believes fervently that as an island nation, surrounded by some of the most productive seas in the Northern Hemisphere, we should have far more of a connection to our coasts and their communities.
‘Sustainability doesn’t just refer to fish stocks, but to the long-term viability of our fishing communities and their harmony and balance with the environment within which they work.’

Mike Warner | Key Talk Takeaways
All Mike’s talks involve an authentic and accurate representation of food production, delivered by someone who has worked and interacted at the coal face of industry – agriculture and fisheries and can talk sympathetically about the industry, whilst maintaining its integrity and in terms the consumer can understand and relate to.
The key messages are centred around the realities of food production and the importance of:
Sustainability – (produce and communities)
Traceability – (provenance)
Seasonality – (eating produce well and in prime condition, with conservation in mind)
Mike Warner | Interactive Seafood Workshops
Quay Connections’ ’Net to Plate’ training workshops provide an Introduction to the UK Fishing Industry. The workshops combine an educational element with port and market visits, for a more rounded and holistic experience that connects stakeholders in the hospitality, media, corporate and education sectors to our fishing communities.
The aim is to provide attendees – chefs, managers, FOH, food writers, journalists, educators and seafood lovers, with an authentic and realistic view of how our seafood is produced, by dispelling misinformation and creating a better understanding of current practice and equipping them with the tools and information to assist in better decision making, when selecting, purchasing or consuming seafood.
