Stephanie Hare is a very learned and experienced individual; she holds a PhD and MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences, and a BA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, which included a year at the Université de la Sorbonne.
Since graduating, Stephanie has gone on to work for Accenture, Palantir, and Oxford Analytica. Artificial Intelligence is a particular speciality of Stephanie, and she is in huge demand across media platforms (she has 11,000 followers on Twitter alone) as a commentator on AI challenges, on top of her work as an expert keynote speaker.
Her research has had wide-reaching influence; in 2020 she researched and wrote about the UK Government’s test and trace COVID-19 policy and apps, its efficacy, and security. Also in 2020 she was called to report on the ongoing dispute between Australia’s government and Facebook. In 2022, she published the book Technology Is Not Neutral: A Short Guide to Technology Ethics; it went on to be named as one of the Financial Times best summer books of the year.
She was selected for the BBC Expert Women programme, contributes to BBC World television, and has been published in The Financial Times, The Guardian, The Observer, The Washington Post, WIRED, and The Harvard Business Review.
She has broadcast on BBC World Services’ World Business Report on the radio, and on BBC Radio 4’s Business Daily. She appeared on shows for the BBC on topics including Can We Trust Huawei?, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg Requests Internet Regulation, and The New Zealand Massacre: The Technical Challenges of Removing Videos from Social Media.
