Tamara Lohan is an entrepreneur and technology strategist with a background in marketing.
She co-founded Mr & Mrs Smith in 2002 with her husband, and took on the role of Chief Technology Officer; she then became Chief Operations Officer in 2019, and Chief Executive Officer in 2020.
Tamara and James established the brand as a solution to a problem. As young professionals wanting weekend breaks out of London, they were disappointed by the number of dated hotels they ended up in, that didn’t care about the customer experience. Believing there were more modern, stylist, and boutique hotels out there that weren’t being covered in guidebooks, they started researching their own.
The idea of the hotel guide was initially rejected by publishers, and so they decided to print it themselves. They sold over 100,000 copies in the first year alone, and are now an online booking service with employees from LA to Sydney, and over 1.5 million members.
The company was bought by Hyatt Hotels Corporation in 2023 for a rumoured £53 million.
